Government help for axed print workers

WORKERS who lost their jobs after a printing firm shut down have been told the Scottish Government will offer them help.

Montgomery Litho in Haddington, East Lothian, went into liquidation with 79 redundancies a few days ago.

East Lothian Labour MSP Iain Gray raised the matter at question time in the Scottish Parliament and pointed out that 35 other staff had been paid off just before Christmas, so the full toll was 114.
Enterprise Minister Fergus Ewing said Montgomery Litho had been a well-respected company. He told MSPs a buyer had been found for the Glasgow part of the firm’s operations, but not Haddington.

He said: “The Scottish Government will do everything it can through the Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) initiative to assist those employees affected by redundancy.”
