Good collie Miss Molly conquers her final Corbett

A MOUNTAINEERING collie has become the first dog to scale all of Scotland’s 220 Corbetts.

Five-year-old Molly has even abseiled off rocky ridges and kayaked to one of Britain’s least accessible summits with her owner, Anne Butler.

She was also airlifted from one Corbett – the term applied to a Scottish mountain between 2,500 and 2,999ft – when wildfires raged through the Torridon mountains.

The daring dog was treated to celebratory sausages after completing her final ascent – of Garbh Bheinn, near Fort William, last Saturday.

Mrs Butler, 46, said: “Molly is an amazing dog and just takes everything in her stride. She doesn’t seem to get flustered by anything..”

The adventurous collie began Corbett bagging in April 2008 when she reached her first summit, Beinn an Lochain, near the Rest and Be Thankful in Argyll.

Mrs Butler, a former nurse from Aviemore, said: “On the a’Chir ridge on the Isle of Arran, it’s quite a steep down climb and Molly’s not able to do that.

“But she’s got a climbing harness and I attach her to that when I’m abseiling and she goes down with me. She’s been quite an adventurous dog.”

Molly also joined her owner in a kayak to reach Ben Aden, near the Knoydart peninsula.
