Go global, young Scots are urged

THE British Council has launched a drive to give Scottish young people global skills.

The World Scots initiative was launched at the official opening of British Council Scotland’s new offices in Edinburgh’s Waverley Gate.

It aims to encourage more young people in Scotland to adopt a global outlook when it comes to their employment prospects and careers. Recent research showed 75 per cent of business chiefs were worried that young people’s horizons were not broad enough to operate in the globalised economy.

British Council Scotland will aim to increase the proportion of Scots participating in the key outward mobility programmes it operates by 25 per cent by the end of next academic year.

It has established a new page on its website to act as a gateway to its programmes and is also encouraging young people to keep in contact via dedicated British Council Scotland Facebook and Twitter pages.
