Girls’ talk at city gallery

A FREE talk on paintings which capture outstanding women from the 19th century is to be given at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.

The Out of the Shadow event, on Thursday, January 12, will see chief curator Julie Lawson look at a selection of women in the 19th century who were challenging the perceived role of women in society.

Among the women to be considered will be Queen Victoria, Jane Welsh Carlyle, Mary Sommerville, the Newhaven Fishwives and Flora Drummond.
