Girls of the reborn gala

AROUND 500 people turned out on Saturday to enjoy the first Newhaven Gala Day for 15 years.

The Gala Queen and Fisher King came ashore on a flag-bedecked boat at Newhaven Harbour, were met by the Boys' Brigade pipe band and processed to Victoria Primary School.

Children from the school, dressed in fishwives' and fishermen's costumes, sang traditional songs, and the queen, Courtney Hill, inset, was crowned by Malcolm Chisholm, MSP.
