Girl robbed by man on red inflatable ball

An eight year-old girl has been robbed of money and a mobile phone by a young man last seen sitting on a red inflatable fitness ball.

The girl was robbed in Govanhill Park at around 4pm on Wednesday.

Police said the young man was in the park “sitting on an inflatable red fitness ball, normally used for gym exercises”.

He approached the girl, stole her money and mobile phone and made off.

The robber is Asian, in his mid-teens to early-20s and between 5ft 5in and 5ft 8in. He was wearing a black jacket over a long brown tunic and brown, loose fitting trousers.

Police said they are carrying out “extensive inquiries” and are looking at CCTV images in an effort to get more detail about the young man.

Detective Inspector Scott McMillan of Strathclyde police, said: “Given the time of day, I’m sure there were people out and about in the park and the surrounding area. Someone may have noticed the man sitting on the red ball or may even have witnessed the incident.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time to get in touch with us.”
