'Get out of oil' warning

ENVIRONMENTALISTS have called for the UK to "end the addiction to oil" rather than work out more ways to tax the industry.

WWF Scotland said it was time governments began planning a "speedy resolution" to cleaner forms of energy.

WWF Scotland's director, Dr Richard Dixon, said: "Most of our political parties, and particularly the SNP, advocate expansion of the oil and gas industry and seem to be in denial about its contribution to climate change. It is high time we had a plan for getting out of this dirty business."
