Following the board from the first leg, which went viral a fortnight ago, Borussia Monchengladbach updated their Twitter handle to @AGermanTeam and sold scarves in the club shop with the “new name” in the club colours.

Indeed, the new scarves proved so popular that the German side ordered 2,000 more scarves ahead of the game against Celtic.

While the game is a must-win for Celtic to keep their Champions League hopes alive. the game has received a significant amount of coverage simply based on the name of Borussia Monchengladbach.

In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland, the club’s head of corporate communications, Markus Aretz, said scarves inspired by the board has proved to be a huge hit.

He said: “When we came back from Glasgow everyone was so enthusiastic about our travel to Glasgow. All the supporters were happy with the result, of course, but also happy with the way they were welcomed in Glasgow and Scotland.

“We thought about doing something for the match when they come to play here so we produced the scarves and within two days they were sold out.”
