GE Oil and Gas could axe jobs at Peterhead

AN oil and gas industry firm has announced proposals to cut jobs in the face of “increasingly challenging market conditions”.

GE Oil and Gas will conduct a formal consultation before making any final decision on jobs at its Peterhead site.

The facility in the Aberdeenshire town makes components for equipment used in the oil and gas industry.

A GE Oil and Gas spokesman said: “As a result of increasingly challenging market conditions, today we are announcing proposals to implement workforce reductions at GE’s pressure control supply chain facility in Peterhead.

“This proposal is not something that we take lightly but we believe that it is the right approach for the long-term health of the business.

“Before any final decision is taken regarding the implementation of this proposal, the company is fully committed to engaging in formal consultation for a minimum period of 45 days.

“We remain committed to continuing an open dialogue with our workforce and to providing information and advice to support our employees.”
