Gas customers face rise in bills

ALMOST half a million British Gas customers are bracing themselves for higher bills as a five-year price freeze comes to an end.

Some 460,000 customers are about to re-enter the market after signing a price protection offer in 2005, sheltering them from huge price hikes, price comparison website uSwitch said.

The average annual household energy bill is now 1,194, while the average cost of bills in the price protection plan is 820, 374 a year cheaper.
