Gardens poll results set to be unveiled

THE residents of Aberdeen should known by noon today whether their city centre will be dominated by a futuristic park or left with sunken gardens laid out in the age of Queen Victoria.

More than half the 165,000 citizens eligible to take part in the referendum on the future of the Union Terrace Gardens site are already known to have cast their votes in the poll.

But the final number of votes, made online, by post and by telephone, will not be revealed until the count begins this morning at the city’s Beach Ballroom.

The public have been asked to either vote in favour of retaining the existing Victorian Gardens or a “Granite Web” design by a firm of New York architects.
