Garden open for one day

Johnston Terrace Garden by Edinburgh Castle will open for one day only this Saturday to allow the public to explore the wildlife oasis hidden in the heart of the city.

The garden, which is normally closed to the public, is tucked away at the top of the Patrick Geddes steps which run between Johnston Terrace and the Grassmarket.

It is the smallest of 123 wildlife reserves managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, but is teeming with wildlife including frogs, bumblebees, butterflies, and many bird species.

Julian Warman, the trust's reserve manager for Edinburgh, said: "The reserve is a great place to spot wildlife."
