Garden aims to grow sense of community

A NEW garden and green space area designed to promote physical and mental health has been opened to the public.

Midlothian Provost Joe Wallace opened the Midlothian Community Gardens during a recent ceremony at Midlothian Community Hospital.

The project, run by NHS Lothian and managed by Edinburgh Cyrenians, aims to bring people from different cultures and generations together to improve individual and community confidence.

Dr Charles Winstanley, chairman of NHS Lothian, said: “NHS Lothian recognises the role gardens play in creating a pleasant environment for patients, their families, visitors and the staff in our hospitals.

“The gardens are a great example of staff, patients and the community coming together to get active and have fun. There is a particular focus on accessibility and connection with the whole of the local community.”

The Community Garden will provide opportunities to grow fresh local produce, engage in healthy outdoor living and foster community building.
