Game of Thrones season 7 has a new trailer. And if the brief snapshots of epic battles are anything to go by, it looks like the show is going all-out in spectacle.
The trailer has sprung a few strange and surprising talking-points too, however. Some of which you may have missed. Here are some of the most fascinating.
The Stark seer can say goodbye to his cumbersome sled. He is now apparently the owner of a fine wooden wheelchair. It only took seven seasons for someone to have the idea. Early in the trailer, we see Bran arriving at the Wall with Meera Reed, so it’s possible that Bran gets hold of the wheelchair at Castle Black. However in the shot where Bran poses with his new mode of transport, a red-leaved tree is visible in the background. Might this be the Godswood tree of Winterfell?
Jaime might fight a dragon:
In one particularly intense moment, we see Jaime Lannister galloping through a blazing, charred battlefield with a lance in his left hand. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau’s character appears to be charging towards a foe with serious intent. Might it be one of Daenerys’ dragons, which laid waste to the battlefield? What’s more, the Kingslayer looks like a man with nothing to lose. Later in the trailer, however, a Dothraki rider can be seen riding through the flames. So it’s possible this could be the target of Jaime’s ire.
Jon might lead the Avengers of Westeros:
A fur clad Jon Snow is shown North of the wall, leading the battle against the White Walkers. He isn’t alone though. An irate Tormund Giantsbane appears in an earlier shot. We also see Jon atop an icy mound accompanied by a fighter with a flaming sword. This is most likely Beric Dondarrion, who was last seen with Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane and Thoros of Myr. With this in mind, it’s possible Jon will be leading a misfit band of ‘superheroes’ on behalf of Westeros. The Game Of Thrones equivalent of the Avengers, if you will. The group are surrounded by thousands of walkers, and at one point during the trailer Sansa Stark utters “the lone wolf dies, while the pack survives.”
Beric might possess extraordinary power:
One of the trailer’s highlights is undoubtedly Beric Dondarrion igniting his sword – apparently without the use of blood magic (which he used when duelling the Hound). The pyrotechnic blade is more than just a visual effect however. Its proximity to Jon Snow is of crucial importance to a certain legend. Azor Ahai is a legendary hero prophecised to rid Westeros of darkness. Most crucially, the hero wields a flaming sword named ‘Lightbringer’. Melisandre, the Red Priestess, thought Stannis was the fabled hero. But this was obviously not the case. Is Beric the true hero? Or, will he offer the sword to Jon -and confirm Snow’s status as The Prince That Was Promised.

King’s Landing might not be the only target:
The Unsullied look to play a big part in the battles to come. Greyworm can be seen approaching a steep cliff, before turning and nodding ominously. The cliffs don’t look familiar. Could this be the home of the Lannisters – Casterly Rock? Later in the trailer, a group of Unsullied open the gates to a fortress. The Unsullied aren’t the only thorn in the Lannisters’ side, either. The Dothraki can also be seen charging Lannister lines with the assistance of Daenerys’ dragons. It all suggests a rather exciting return.
