Funding boost to develop marine energy

Climate Change Minister Greg Barker calls into Pelamis Wave Power at Leith Docks to announce a £20 million funding boost.

It is to be invested in the marine energy industry to develop power devices.

Mr Barker said generating energy from the power of waves had the potential to meet 15 to 20 per cent of the UK’s electricity demand by 2050. The money will come from the Department of Energy and Climate Change budget of more than £200m to fund low- carbon technologies.
