Fringe set for big shake-up

THE Fringe is set for the biggest shake-up in its history, with all participants set to be given a direct say in the event's organisation for the first time.

Every company booking a slot is likely to become an official member of The Festival Fringe Society, which has been limited to just 100 members in its 55-year history.

The move was triggered by the 2008 box office fiasco, which threatened administration.

Experts to help the Fringe develop new IT systems, secure sponsorship deals, and build better business and political contacts are expected to be targeted.

The Fringe may also get a new figurehead similar to the Edinburgh Film Festival, whose past patrons have included Sean Connery and Tilda Swinton.
