Fresh appeal for rickshaw fall witnesses

POLICE have launched a fresh appeal for witnesses to an off-duty soldier's fatal fall from a pedicab.

Christopher O'Kane, 26, a serving soldier with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, based at McMillan Barracks in Southampton, passed away at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Monday after sustaining a serious head injury in the fall.

Police are still keen to trace witnesses to the incident, which happened in the Festival Square area of Lothian Road, at around 2:20am on Sunday morning.

A police spokesman said: "This was a tragic incident. We are keen to speak to any witnesses that would be able to assist with our inquiries."

His death has sparked an urgent review into the Capital's rickshaw trade.
