Fresh appeal for information in Glasgow shooting probe

Detectives are re-appealing for information on the murder of 26-year-old Euan Johnston who was shot while in his car in Glasgow.

At around 11.40pm on Tuesday night, Euan Johnston was in a black Audi RS4 on Shields Road, near to its junction with Scotland Street, when he was shot by an occupant of a dark-coloured Audi Q5 that pulled up beside him. The Audi vehicle then made off at speed and was last seen turning into Scotland Street, heading for the M8 motorway towards Kingston Bridge.

Emergency services attended and he was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he died a short time later.

The 29-year-old male passenger in the car at the time was uninjured.

Officers have now completed a forensic examination of the scene and a full search has been carried out at Shields Road. The area has been reopened.

Just before midnight, police were called to a report of a car on fire in Bracken Street in the Parkhouse area of Glasgow.

The vehicle is currently undergoing a detailed forensic examination to establish if there is any link to the murder in Shields Road.

Detectives are appealing to anyone was saw a vehicle being driven at speed in the area at this time to come forward.

Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr from the Major Investigations Team said: “Our priority remains tracing whoever is responsible and a team of highly experienced detectives are working on this murder inquiry.

“Although we do believe that this was a targeted, planned attack and Euan Johnston was the intended target, the shooting was carried out with absolutely no regard for public safety, and I completely understand that people will be concerned regarding this.

“I would stress that everything is being done to track down whoever is responsible for this shooting and this includes a number of officers examining CCTV footage from the area around the scene of the shooting.”

He added: “I would like to reassure the local communities that there are additional police patrols in the area and anyone with concerns should speak to officers.

“We are doing everything we can to trace whoever is responsible for this murder, but we would appreciate any assistance that the public can provide, as the even the smallest piece of information could be vital to our investigation. We have support mechanisms in place, should people feel vulnerable about contacting us and I would urge people to do the right thing and report any information they have.

“An incident room has been set up at Baird Street Police Office and information should be passed to officers there by phoning 101.”
