Free steaks all round after Scotland scores first try

A NEW Edinburgh steakhouse is £2000 out of pocket after promising brunch customers a bargain meal if Scotland scored the first try in yesterday’s Six Nations match against France.

The Steak restaurant in Picardy Place refunded the cost of more than 60 meals after Scotland scored a try eight minutes into the game through Stuart Hogg before going on to lose the match by 17 points to 23.

Former Scotland rugby star Simon Taylor opened the restaurant two weeks ago in a joint venture with business partner Barrie Brown.

General manager Michele Civiera said it had been a great atmosphere in the restaurant. He said: “A roar went up when Scotland scored the first try. The staff looked at me with their eyebrows raised so I just threw my hands up and said ‘Let’s do it’.”

Edinburgh woman Matilda Landsdown, 21, and five of her friends were among the customers enjoying the free food. She said: “We’ve had a super meal and spent the money we had put aside for food on drink instead, so it’s a win-win situation for us all.”
