Free fireworks – for a full five minutes

The company behind Oban’s short-lived fireworks display earlier this month is to launch a homage to the show.

Pyro1, the Edinburgh-based fireworks entertainment company, inadvertently created a viral video sensation when its 4 November display came to a swift end with all its fireworks going off at once.

The display was all over in just 50 seconds – 20 times faster than planned.

Now the company is to launch an “Obang” display in Oban this weekend. The display will last just five minutes and is being given free due to the original glitch.

Martin Allen, operations director at Pyro1 said: “We were obviously devastated when our carefully planned display for Oban quite literally went off with a bang.

“However, we’ve also been astounded by the way the display took the world by storm and amazed by the positive response to the 50-second display.”
