Free bus journeys for train delay passengers

RAIL passengers will be able to hop on a bus when there is disruption on the line after ScotRail and Lothian Buses joined forces.

The plan could help those who are waiting on a delayed train.

The new scheme begins on Sunday and will come into effect when trains are delayed by severe weather, emergency repairs or signalling issues.

Passengers will be able to get on buses which serve stations across the Lothians, including Waverley and Haymarket.

All they have to do is show the driver their ticket and they’ll be allowed to board for no extra cost.

And it’s hoped Edinburgh Trams will soon sign up for the scheme, which has already proven a success in Glasgow.

Danny Williams, ScotRail’s operations director, said: “This scheme will be a real benefit for our customers in and around Edinburgh and Midlothian.

“During periods of major disruption, our main priority is to keep customers on the move and this partnership with Transport for Edinburgh will help us do just that.”

Sarah Boyd, head of operations at Lothian Buses, said: “We are delighted to be working with ScotRail on this initiative to help travellers in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

“This partnership will provide passengers with an alternative way to travel and help limit any inconvenience during rail disruptions.”
