Four rescued from Dundee flat fire

FOUR people were rescued by firefighters from a blazing flat in Dundee in the early hours of this morning.

Another eight people were led to safety from the three storey block in a converted mill in the city’s Brown Constable Street.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “Eight people were led from flats within the block and four from the first floor flat, where the fire originated, were rescued by firefighters. Two were rescued using a 13.5mtre ladder and two were taken down the stairwell.

“The flat was extensively damaged by smoke and fire and firefighters in breathing apparatus used two main jets and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.”

Hospital

He added: “Two people were taken to hospital for treatment in relation to minor burns and smoke inhalation and two were checked over at the scene and later discharged.”

Group Manager Pat Walmsley said: “On arrival our crew were faced with a well established fire with smoke and flame both visible. Our firefighters worked very closely with Police colleagues to ensure the safety and removal of all occupants within the block.”
