Four charged over stadium violence

FOUR men have appeared in court charged with breach of the peace offences near Rangers’s Ibrox stadium.

Stuart Bews, 21, Kevin McLeod, 34 , Matthew Thomson, 23, and William Beattie, 42, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday.

Bews, from Aberdeen, allegedly committed a breach of the peace aggravated by religious prejudice by shouting, swearing and chanting sectarian slogans outside Ibrox Stadium. McLeod, from Edinburgh, is charged with shouting, swearing and challenging others to a fight at Copland Road, Ibrox.

Thomson, from Aberdeen, is accused of shouting, swearing, attempting to punch people and challenging others to fight.

Beattie, from Aberdeen, is also charged with challenging others to fight with him, inciting others to fight and assaulting a police officer.

It is alleged the offences took place on 21 January.

All four accused deny the charges.
