Foster carer praise as council nears target

THE city council has praised its foster carers as it revealed it was on target to recruit a new batch to look after vulnerable children and young people.

At the start of this year, the council set a target of recruiting 30 more carers, and so far 12 new carers are well on their way to becoming approved, with another 18 starting out on the recruitment process.

Children and families leader Councillor Paul Godzik said: “I am delighted that we are on track to meet our target of urgently needed foster carers. However, real challenges remain, the demand for foster carers continues to rise and there will always be a need for more.

“I would encourage anyone interested to take the next step and get in touch. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our carers for the hugely important work they do. They make a real difference to the lives of some of our most vulnerable children.

“But, like every job, they cannot go on forever, so we will always be looking for people who can take on this rewarding role.”
