Forth hovercraft link set for trial

A HOVERCRAFT link between Edinburgh and Fife is set to undergo trials in October.

Bus and train operator Stagecoach plans to invite passengers to take part in the experimental service between Kirkcaldy and Portobello. The company will use a 150-seat BHT-130 hovercraft, which is expected to complete the crossing in 20 minutes.

Stagecoach said scheduled services could start in 2008. The firm has also proposed a ferry link across the Forth - but that scheme may require new harbours.
