Fort William climber in stable condition after fall

Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old man is in a stable condition after falling 300 ft from a mountain.

The climber from the West Midlands is a student in Fort William and was airlifted to hospital after the fall in the Corrie an Lochan area of the Cairngorms yesterday around 12.20pm.

Northern Constabulary said the man was with a party of climbers tackling the Great Slab when he fell and injured his head and right leg.

Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team and the Air Rescue Co-ordination Centre were involved in the rescue and the man was airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by helicopter where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Police said his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
