Former SFA chief Jim Farry dies

Former Scottish Football Association chief executive Jim Farry has died aged 56, the governing body confirmed today.

Farry, from East Kilbride, is believed to have died from a heart attack.

Farry spent more than 25 years working in football administration before his nine-year tenure as SFA chief executive came to a controversial end in 1999.

Farry was sacked for "gross misconduct" after Celtic complained that he had delayed Jorge Cadete's registration when the Portuguese forward signed in 1996.

Cadete missed crucial games amid the delay, including a Scottish Cup semi-final defeat by Rangers, and Farry was sacked after an independent commission found in Celtic's favour.
