Footfall at St James on rise

FOOTFALL in the St James Centre is up five per cent on the same time last year despite citywide reports that the number of shoppers had plummeted.

Official figures show that in the first week of December there were 400,000 fewer people in the city centre - a drop of 11 per cent on last year. The decline has been blamed on the big freeze but general manager of the St James Centre, Rochelle Burgess, said the number of people shopping at the mall had been unaffected by the weather.
