Football club keeps an eye on vandals

A VANDALISM-hit football club has installed CCTV in a bid to stop local youths damaging its property.

Dalkeith Thistle has been targeted several times this year, with thugs causing damage costing hundreds of pounds.

Now, thanks to the generosity of local businessmen, the cameras have been installed and pay booths repaired.

John Burnett, owner of Dalkeith Demolition, forked out for the security system, and as a result the club has named its recently developed hospitality suite after him.

It comes after Ronnie Jamieson, who runs a successful joinery firm, paid to make other repairs last month.

Mr Jamieson read about the club’s plight in the Evening News after vandals smashed up its pay booths and splattered paint across its car park – the fourth time it had been targeted inside a year.

He said: “I’ve got a personal link because my grandfather and my father played for them.”

Vice-president Jimmy Butt said: “These people put thousands of pounds into our club and we couldn’t do it without them. We hope the CCTV will put an end to the vandalism.”
