Footage released of Avengers:Infinity War battle sequence shot in Waverley Station

Extended footage of the Avengers: Infinity War blockbuster that were shot in Edinburgh have finally been released - depicting an epic battle in Waverley Station.

The film follows on from Avengers: Age of Ultron

Scarlett Johannsson’s Black Widow, Chris Evans’ Captain America and Anthony Mackie’s Falcon are all seen tackling Black Order assassins in the 30-second clip.

It was shown on the Good Morning America programme, which Mackie was appearing on to promote the film ahead of its much-anticipated movie’s world premiere next week.

The film follows on from Avengers: Age of Ultron

Part of the station was transformed into a movie set for several weeks last year to help accommodate a 10-minute sequence in the film which is set in Edinburgh. A fake cafe constructed for the production can be seen in the fight scenes, which were shot near the Calton Road entrance to the station.

Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Vision, played by Paul Bettany, also filmed key scenes in the city. The Royal Mile, the City Chambers, Cockburn Street and St Giles’ Cathedral are all expected to have starring roles in the final film.

Previously, only glimpses of the footage shot in Edinburgh have appeared in official trailers or clips leaked online.

According to set reports, Scarlet Witch and Vision are attacked by Black Order assassins in the station - only for Captain America, Black Widow and Falcon to ride to their rescue.

Rosie Ellison, manager of the Film Edinburgh commission, which helped secure the lengthy shoot in the city last year, said: Filming in Waverley Station was a mammoth undertaking with sets built and trains rerouted in a working station, and traffic managed on the bridge to accommodate large cranes holding lights over the station.

“It’s a credit to the station staff, the city and the production team that this could be accomplished.

“We can’t wait to see the film when it’s released on Thursday.”

Marketing chiefs in Edinburgh are running a three-day “City of Superheroes” campaign next week to encourage businesses to capitalise on interest generated by the release of the film.

The seven-week shoot in the last year is already estimated to have generated around £10 million in economic benefit for the city.

Kate Campbell, Edinburgh City Council’s economy committe, said: “It’s fantastic to see Waverley Station in this sneak peek of Avengers: Infinity War and I can’t wait to see more of Edinburgh when the movie is released next week. T

“he fun doesn’t stop there though – following the release, our City of Superheroes weekend will celebrate everything that is super about the capital.

“It’s exciting to think some of Edinburgh’s iconic landmarks will be immortalised on the big screen in what is tipped to be the biggest superhero movie of all time. “
