Flood scheme scoops award

The Braid Burn Flood Prevention Scheme has won a prestigious industry accolade.

The major project won a commendation in the Environmentally Sustainable Construction category at the 30th Anniversary Civil Engineering Awards 2011.

The awards, presented by the Saltire Society and The Institution of Civil Engineers, were announced in a ceremony held at Edinburgh’s Surgeons’ Hall.

The judges said of the Braid Burn Flood Prevention Scheme that: “the project demonstrated a high degree of stakeholder involvement and environmental enhancement in the implementation of the necessary flood protection measures in a sensitive suburban environment”.

Severe flooding occurred to properties along the 18km Braid Burn in 2000.

The Braid Burn Flood Prevention Scheme is designed to protect residents and businesses against a one in every 200 years flood.
