Five arrested in drugs raids

FIVE people have been arrested following a series of drugs raids at addresses in the south and east of the Capital yesterday.

The operation saw officers carry out six house searches at properties in the area, seizing a combination of Class A, B and C drugs.

Four men, aged 47, 35, 39 and 41, and one woman aged 35, were arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences, and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.

As part of the raids officers carried out high-visibility reassurance patrols in the area, handing out leaflets with contact details for Crimestoppers and local drug rehabilitation facilities.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “While the amount of drugs seized was relatively small, yesterday’s operation sends a strong message that the Force will act on any information regarding drug dealers operating in local communities.

“The feedback that we received from the local community regarding yesterday’s activity was largely positive, and we will continue to take targeted action against those who are blighting the lives of local residents through criminal activity.

“Anyone who has any information regarding drug dealing or any other criminal activity taking place in the local community should contact police. Rest assured that any information received will be acted on, and treated in the strictest confidence.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
