Five arrested after £200,000 of drugs found

Five people have been arrested and charged after city police recovered drugs worth nearly £200,000 at four properties.

Officers from the Organised Crime Counter and Terrorism Unit searched four homes in the Drylaw, Leith and Broomhouse areas.

More than 16kg of cannabis was seized along with 11kg of amphetamine and 112 diazepam tablets.

The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of around £198,000.

Four men aged 51, 33, 49 and 45 and a 46-year-old woman appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today.

Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Gray said: “Once again, we have acted on intelligence from our communities to seize large quantities of drugs and put a considerable dent in the operations of local crime groups.

“Whenever we receive information from the public relating to serious organised crime or associated offences, such as drug distribution, we will respond accordingly to bring those responsible to justice.

“Anyone wishing to report drug crime or any other ongoing criminal activity in their area can contact Police Scotland on 101 or make an anonymous report via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
