Fishing vessel runs aground

Three fishermen were rescued on Christmas Day, after their boat ran aground in the River Thurso in Caithness.

The Coastguard was contacted by 18-metre crabber Kingfisher shortly after midnight to say the vessel was aground just below Thurso Castle. A lifeboat towed the boat with its catch of live crab back to Scrabster harbour.

Aberdeen Coastguard watch manager David Robertson said: "The three crew who were rescued by lifeboat are safe and well."
