Crews have been working tirelessly throughout the night to bring the fire under control. From first light this morning firefighters have been dealing with a three mile fire-front.

Fire chiefs said the dry conditions and strong winds have made firefighting challenging and operations continue this morning and are likely to do so for much of today.

Group Manager John MacDonald, who was Incident Commander last night, said: “We are dealing with a very protracted wildfire incident which covers a wide area and where access is difficult in places.

“I would like to pay tribute to the commitment and effort of fire crews who have been dealing with this incident.

“I’d also like to thank local residents for their assistance and support during this incident.
