Every chicken perished in the fire last night at a barn, containing propane gas cylinders, at a chicken farm in the Brodie area of Forres.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters from Forres had been called out to tackle the outbreak shortly before 7pm.

He said: “Two appliances from Forres were sent to the scene. The farm building, which contained 2000 chickens, was well alight when crews arrived. There were also propane cylinders within the building.

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two main jets and were able to bring it under control before the cylinders were affected.”

The spokesman added: “Crews also used a thermal imaging camera and lighting and a water carrier from Buckie was also involved. Sadly all the birds died during the incident.”
