Fire breaks out at Moray military base

FIRE crews have been called to a military base to tackle a blaze that started during a training exercise.

Royal Engineers, based at Kinloss in Moray, were carrying out routine demolition training at the range at Fort George, near Inverness, when gorse bushes caught fire, the army said.

The fire service was called at 1:50pm yesterday, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent four vehicles to the scene.

A spokeswoman said the fire had been extinguished within an hour and about 20 firefighters had been in attendance.

Fort George is also a visitor attraction, which is run by Historic Scotland.
