Fight for green project funds down to wire

LOTHIANS Green MSP Alison Johnstone today made a last-minute plea for support for plans to build a community-owned wind turbine at Seafield waste water treatment works.

The Portobello and Leith Community Wind Energy Project is in a nail-biting battle to win the final round of voting in the Energyshare.com contest for funding of up to £100,000 for community renewables and energy saving projects.

Ms Johnstone said: “It really is neck-and-neck between the Portobello community’s power project and their closest rivals for this investment, so I’d urge everyone to vote before 5pm tomorrow. The plans for Portobello are a great model for the future of Scotland’s power supply – low carbon, innovative, locally owned, and close to the community.”

People can register their support for the project by going to the website www.energyshare.com.
