Fife man to stand trial charged with murder of baby girl

Gordon McKay, 37, is accused of killing five-month-old Hayley Davidson.

It is claimed that on various occasions between 9 September, 2015 – the day Hayley was born – and 14 February, 2016, McKay assaulted her at addresses in Buckhaven, Fife.

This includes allegations that he did “bend and compress” the baby’s body and bite her.

It is further said that McKay repeatedly shook Hayley and “by means to the prosecutor unknown” inflict trauma and violence on her head and body.

The murder accusation states that the child was left so severely injured that she died in hospital on February 17.

McKay, also of Buckhaven, faces a second charge of possessing cannabis.

McKay – who denies the accusations – appeared on Friday for a further hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.

Judge Lord Beckett set a trial which is due to begin next February in Edinburgh.

The case could last up to four weeks.

McKay’s legal team had previously lodged a special defence of incrimination in connection with the murder charge.

Bail for McKay was continued meantime.
