Feugh Footbridge to reopen after refurbishment

A FOOTBRIDGE on Royal Deeside, popular with tourists and families watching salmon leaping in a major tributary of the River Dee, has reopened following a major refurbishment.

The famous Feugh Footbridge, which overlooks the Falls of Feugh, is a short walk from Banchory town centre. A spokesman for Aberdeenshire Council said: “It is an important tourist attraction, with many visitors to the area hoping to catch a glimpse of the fish as they tackle the falls to head upstream and spawn. “The paint on the footbridge was no longer preventing corrosion and during work to improve protection more significant corrosion was found. It was discovered some hidden parts of the structure beneath the steel deck needed repair to maintain the integrity of the bridge. “Following surface preparation and structural repairs, a four-coat protective paint system was applied.” Councillor Moira Ingleby, the chairwoman of the Marr Area Committee, said: “The Falls of Feugh are an important tourist attraction and carrying out these essential works will extend the service life of the structure and reduce future maintenance requirements for the benefit of local communities.”
