Fees hike 'will hurt Scotland'

SCOTS students will be hit by the increase in university fees at English universities, Edinburgh East Labour MP Sheila Gilmore has warned.

She claimed the new 9000-a-year cap on tuition fees south of the border would have a serious impact here.

She said: "I'm concerned that young people in England, because of higher fees, will increasingly want to study in Scotland.

"This could squeeze out otherwise bright and able Scottish students."
