Fears over loss of Leith's late post pick-up

CONCERNS have been expressed about how early the last collection of post is on Leith Walk.

Local councillor Maggie Chapman said that from the end of November there will be no posting facilities at the former Brunswick Road sorting office.

It means that the last uplift of mail for Leith Walk businesses and residents will be 7.15pm in Frederick Street, compared with 7.30pm at Brunswick Road. The last uplift of franked mail is at 6.30pm at Constitution Street, rather than 7pm at Brunswick Road.

Cllr Chapman has lodged a motion for full council saying that the loss of service is "unacceptable". Her motion said: "Council therefore instructs the leader and the chief executive to request that Royal Mail retain late posting facilities in the Leith Walk area."
