Fearful angler fished for aid over vertigo

A RESCUE was launched to coax down an angler who suffered a bout of vertigo near an iconic Scottish lighthouse.

Two men were walking on a rocky path near St Abbs Lighthouse en route to a fishing spot yesterday afternoon when one – believed to be in his 30s – was paralysed by a fear of heights.

His friend tried to cajole the man to safety for an hour-and-a-half before electing to call the emergency services, who helped lead the man back to terra firma. St Abbs RNLI and both Eyemouth and Dunbar cliff rescue teams attended the call-out.

A coastguard spokesman said: "It's very steep in places and the man decided he wasn't going any further, so he had to be helped down."
