Father faces ninth battle with cancer

A WEST Lothian man is battling cancer for the ninth time.

Father-of-two Lawrence Stewart, 32, has had to contend with brain tumours, lung, liver and stomach cancer over the last 19 years.

Mr Stewart, who lives in Bathgate, raised thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in the Long Day Golf Challenge in West Lothian in July.

However, shortly after taking part in the event, he was told the cancer had returned in his stomach and liver following a routine CT scan.

The retired bank manager has just finished the final dose of another gruelling treatment of chemotherapy which looks to have rid him of the cancer in his stomach.

The tumour in his liver has shrunk by 90 per cent but he still faces the prospect of more surgery or radiofrequency ablation treatment.

Mr Stewart, who has been given the all-clear eight times before, is adamant he can beat cancer again. He said: "I am still quite positive about it all. It's just one of those things now and it's a bonus if there is nothing there when I go for a check-up."
