Faster broadband is on the horizon

FASTER broadband is to extend to a further 124,000 homes in Scotland by next spring, BT announced yesterday.

Bo’ness, Brechin, Lockerbie, Scone and Tillicoutry are among the communities to be included in BT’s roll-out of new generation copper lines which will be able to deliver broadband of up to 20 Mbps per second.

The faster broadband is already available at 1.5 million homes and businesses in Scotland with Burntisland, Dumfries, Fort William and Kirriemuir among the latest places to be upgraded.

By early next year three-quarters of homes in Scotland will be able to connect via the faster broadband, while 40 per cent will have access to superfast fibre-optic connections, which are being rolled out in a separate programme.
