Fans' football match set to aid MS charity

THE Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (MSTC) is to be the official charity for this year's fundraising football match between fans of Hibs and Hearts, following an online vote.

The match, which is staged every year, has raised 40,226 for city charities over the three years it has been running.

This year organisers decided to invite members of the public to vote for the charity they thought should benefit. They were given the choice of the MSTC, Asthma UK Scotland or Cash For Kids.

With more than 700 votes cast, it was decided that winner MSTC would receive 80 per cent of the money raised, with Asthma UK Scotland and Cash For Kids each receiving 10 per cent.

Organiser Scott Moncrieff said: "I was really surprised how many people voted – it's been really good. And the voting was really close at the end – there were only about 25 votes in it."

The match will be held on 30 May at the new Spartans stadium. Trials for the teams will begin at the end of next month. Details are due to be released next week at www.rivals4charity.co.uk.
