Family’s devastation at killing of Carolyn Ann

THE family of a woman who was stabbed to death in a Tollcross flat have paid a heartfelt tribute, telling how she “lit up the world of everyone she met”.

Carolyn Ann Ellis, 32, died following a disturbance at the property, in West Tollcross near the King’s Theatre, earlier this week.

Police are understood to have arrived to find her in a stairwell, having suffered multiple wounds to her upper body. She died despite the best efforts of paramedics to save her. A second woman also received minor injuries.

A man appeared in court yesterday charged with her murder. The court sent him to the State Hospital at Carstairs in Lanarkshire to be examined by medical staff.

In a statement, Ms Ellis’s family paid tribute to a “wonderful and caring person”.

Her parents, Judy and Bernard, said: “Carolyn Ann was a wonderful and caring person who always made time for her family and many friends.

“She lit up the world of everyone she met and was very popular.

“No one ever had a bad word to say about her.

“As a family, we are devastated to have lost such a special daughter and sister and we would now ask for privacy as we try to come to terms with our grief.”

The incident on Tuesday shortly after 6pm led to a major police response, with officers closing off two roads around the property while forensic teams carried out investigations.

Douglas Lawrence, 28, appeared in court yesterday charged with murder. He is accused of killing Ms Ellis and is also charged with two counts of assault and assault to injury.

Lawrence, whose address was not disclosed, made no plea or declaration when he appeared before Sheriff Michael O’Grady QC.

The case was continued for further examination.

Lawrence is next due in court on January 27.
