The train operator will put on 87 extra carriages from Aberdeen, Bathgate, Dalmuir, Dundee, Glasgow, Glenrothes, Helensburgh and Perth, and a further 135 carriages afterwards – a 65 per cent increase in capacity.

There will also be an
additional 50 members of staff on the ground, with queuing systems in place at Haymarket station afterwards.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said fans had never been so well provided for.

She said: “We are pleased to be able to run more extra seats than ever before for a Six Nations game, while also meeting demand in other areas of the rail network.

“Fans can play their part by buying tickets in advance and, if they are able to travel home an hour or so later, they will have more chance of getting a seat, too.”
