Ex-Hearts star ‘distraught’ at wife’s death

FORMER Hearts striker Lee Miller said he had been left “distraught” after the death of his wife, who was thought to have been suffering from a critical illness.

Donna, 29, passed away late on Tuesday night.

Miller, who currently plays for English League One side Carlisle United, said it had been the “saddest day of my life”.

The couple, who had two sons together and lived in Wishaw, met on a night out in December 2002.

Miller proposed while playing pool, after asking Donna to reach in to a pocket where she discovered a white gold band encrusted with diamonds.

Miller, announcing her death on Facebook and Twitter, said: “Saddest day of my life. RIP Donna... u will always be loved!!... a wonderful mum 2 our beautiful boys!!... they will never 4get u!!...xxx”

The couple married in the Capital in 2008 while Miller, who has played three times for Scotland, was starring for Aberdeen.

Donna, whose maiden name was Gilhoolie, said at the time: “You never know when your life is going to change completely. It was a girls’ night out, men were the furthest thing from my mind. Then this guy appeared and started chatting away to me.

“I must admit, my initial reaction was ‘what a pest’.”

Miller, 28, spent five months on loan at Hearts from Bristol City in 2005, scoring eight goals.
