Ex-bank boss drove prostitutes to meet clients

Ian Goalen, 60, was ordered to hand the cash over following a proceeds of crime hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday morning.

The ex-yacht club commodore worked for notorious Scots vice boss Margaret “Madam Moneybags” Paterson, 61, and her business partner Robert Munro, also 61.

The pair ran a brothel and escort business in Edinburgh’s west end which was worth £1.2 million.

When police raided her home in the city in September 2011, detectives found evidence which established that Paterson had blew £500,000 on designer handbags, shoes and clothes in some of Scotland’s most exclusive shops.

Paterson and Munro were both jailed for five years in July 2013 whilst Goalen was ordered to perform 150 hours community service.

On Monday, Goalen, of North Berwick, East Lothian, agreed to hand over £6,500 to Crown Office lawyers.

Police established that he drove girls to meetings with clients in Edinburgh, Glasgow, West Lothian, and Newcastle Upon Tyne. Before becoming a driver, Goalen had been sacked from his bank manager job for gross misconduct.

Prosecution advocate Barry Divers told the court that investigators had established that Goalen had made £6,500 from criminal activities.

Judge Lord Armstrong ordered Goalen to pay the sum to the sheriff clerk’s office at Haddington Sheriff Court within six months.
